Somewhere Wes Welker is Smiling...

Karma is a b****, and the New England Patriots might be feeling her wrath after their mistreatment of former wide receiver Wes Welker.

Welker who has been the Patriots most productive receiver over the last six seasons, was unceremoniously allowed to walk in free agency as the Patriots opted for a youth movement in their receiving corps.

Maybe Wes Welker isn’t getting the message…

Wes Welker has been locked into contract negotiations with the New England Patriots virtually since the moment the Patriots walked off the field after their Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants but there has been very little progress. Instead Welker has had the pleasure of watching the Patriots receiving core get a whole lot deeper over the offseason.

The latest signing is an ex-Patriot and former favorite target of Tom Brady’s, Jabar Gaffney. Gaffney left the Patriots’ organization in 2009 to join offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in Denver but McDaniels came back to New England at the end of last year. It seems that Gaffney has decided to rejoin his former coordinator once again.

Patriots, Packers have easiest paths to Super Bowl XLVII

The NFL released team schedules on Tuesday and according to the strength of schedule for all 32 teams, the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers will have the two easiest schedules for the 2012 season.

Strength of schedule really doesn’t mean so much in terms of a team’s chances of making it to the Super Bowl since it is only an indicator of how many wins a team’s combined opponents had during the regular season of the previous year. The 2009 season was proof of that.

Is There a Market for Welker Outside New England?

Looking at Wes Welker’s numbers, you would expect him to receive a big payday this offseason. Welker has been the New England Patriots’ most productive receiver over the past five years but there are a couple of factors that may determine if he receives that big payday or not.

Eli’s Play, Giants’ Defense are Championship Caliber

If the New York Giants win the Super Bowl on Sunday, most of the credit will probably go to quarterback Eli Manning who has been playing in a totally different stratosphere from all other quarterbacks this postseason.

Current Patriots’ Offense More Potent than the 2007 Version

I know that’s hard to believe right? The New England Patriots went undefeated during the 2007 regular season with Tom Brady and Randy Moss setting a few records along the way. How could an offense that went undefeated during the regular season in 2007 be even more dangerous now, especially after losing a speedster and play-making weapon like Moss from its arsenal?

Alex Smith Lays Down the Law

The New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees is an attacker, a game-changer. In today’s NFL he represents the modern-day outlaw. A gunslinger who comes into your house guns blazing and steals a win.

Tim Tebow Will Never Measure Up

Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos has never had the measurables you expect from a quarterback drafted in the first round. He’s not very accurate, he has a slow delivery and his pocket presence leaves something to be desired.

Could Breaking the Passing Record Equal MVP for Drew Brees?

The last guy who broke the NFL’s single-season record for passing yards was also voted the leagues’ MVP. You know….some guy by the name of Dan Marino. Sadly New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees won’t be following in Marino’s footsteps in that regard.

A Quarterback's Body Language Speaks Louder Than Words

Actions speak louder than words and in Cam Newton’s case his body language during the fourth quarter of games speaks volumes. So much so that two of his teammates felt the need to talk to him about it. Newton speaking to the media a few days after their win against the Houston Texans had this to say:

Quarterback Controversy in Indianapolis?

We so-called “media sharks” (I got called that in a response to one of my previous stories) will more than likely take a major hit on this one but this debate is too tantalizing not to dip my toe in the water. Archie Manning has stated that his son Peyton Manning and future number-one-overall draft pick, Andrew Luck, do not want to be teammates.
