With Peyton Manning due to sign with the Denver Broncos, Tim
Tebow’s time in Denver has pretty much come to an end. John Elway is set to
ship Tebow out of Denver and will probably give him away for virtually nothing
to any team that shows interest. So what five teams would be willing to trade
for Tebow?
Jacksonville Jaguars
Most people expect the Jacksonville Jaguars to pursue their
hometown hero. The Jaguars are not a lock to pursue or get Tebow for that
matter with all of the changes that have occurred since Tebow was drafted back
in 2010.
The Jaguars drafted quarterback Blaine Gabbert in the first
round last year and are looking to develop him but Tebow could be a big
hindrance in Gabbert’s development because of his popularity. The Jaguars also
signed Chad Henne as a backup so Tebow would be no more than a glorified mascot
if he comes back to Jacksonville.
Cleveland Browns
Cleveland has always been a blue-collar city and worships
loyal, hardworking players. They would love to get Tim Tebow who could serve as
an insurance policy against Colt McCoy getting injured. Mike Holmgren may be
looking to draft a quarterback in the draft t but if he is unable to draft one
then Tebow could be a second option.
Minnesota Vikings
A team that many may not see as a destination for Tebow
would be the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have committed to Christian Ponder
this year but Tebow may not be a bad number two option for the team. It’s not
likely that he will be as big of a distraction in Minnesota as he was in Denver
and as he would be in Jacksonville so Minnesota has nothing to lose by trading
for him.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins do not want to go back to a gimmick
offense which is what they would have to do if they brought in Tebow as a
starter. The Dolphins may struggle running a conventional offense with all of
the best quarterback options committed to teams for the 2012 season so having a
winner like Tebow waiting in the wings to run gadget plays and serve as a
backup isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Philadelphia Eagles
The surprise team that could emerge in the Tebow sweepstakes
could be the Philadelphia Eagles. Andy Reid has had great success with athletic,
running quarterbacks and Tebow is a project that Reid may feel is worth taking
on. Despite his lack of accuracy Tebow is still a better decision maker than
Vince Young who was Michael Vick’s backup last year. Tebow is also way more
coachable than Young and could still be a very good quarterback if Reid and
crew take time to work on his mechanics.
New England Patriots
They don’t need him but Tebow’s former head coach may
convince the Patriots to bring him in. Josh McDaniel loves Tebow and would love
to have him for special packages. If he could bring Tebow in and work on his
game then McDaniel could raise Tebow’s stock making him a more valuable trade
asset in the future.
Bottom line, Tebow will get a chance to play somewhere just
because his name is Tebow. He's a high character guy and his success last year means that teams will continue
to take a chance on him until he either proves he can play or he can’t play. So
for all intents and purposes the Tebow saga will continue.
Who do you think Tim Tebow will wind up playing for next year? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject.
