Is Jason Garrett the right coach to lead the Dallas Cowboys?

Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett kind of reminds me a little bit of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. Both are young first-time head coaches who have been entrusted with championship-caliber teams while still in their coaching infancy.

Spoelstra didn’t have all of the talent he now has at his disposal when he first took over as coach of the Heat but he did produce two winning seasons with what he had before LeBron James and Chris Bosh landed in his lap. With the addition of two All-Star talents like James and Bosh, Spoelstra has been able to lead Miami to two straight NBA Finals appearances.

Cowboys seeking to put the ‘D’ back in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys went into this offseason with a singular focus; improve their shaky defense. Not that their defense was all that terrible. They were the 11^th ranked defense and held their opponents under 20 points in half their games.

Their defense failed to show up when it counted though. Dallas’s defense allowed 30 or more points in four games and three of those came against division opponents.

Tony Romo is not the problem in Dallas

Tony Romo bashers will be disappointed to hear this but Romo wasn’t responsible for the Dallas Cowboys missing the playoffs last season. To be honest, Romo had his most productive season as a pro in 2011 which bodes well for the upcoming year.

Sorry Norv but Rex May Have Been Right

Back in October as Rex Ryan’s New York Jets were preparing to face off against the San Diego Chargers, Ryan made a statement to the press that he would probably have a “couple of rings” by now if he had inherited the talent that Norv Turner had when Turner was hired as San Diego’s coach. Rex quickly retracted the statement then promptly coached his team to a victory over the Turner-led Chargers.
