Seahawks prove why competition is good

What was the biggest difference between the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Jets last year? Well the easy response is that the Seahawks made the playoffs last season and the Jets didn't.

While this is true, there was one reason above all that had the biggest affect on these teams' seasons: their offseason QB competitions.

Seahawks to play a two-tight end set next year?

The Seattle Seahawks just acquired tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft pick on Monday. The Seahawks already had a solid pass-catching tight end in Zach Miller who they signed from the Oakland Raiders just a year earlier.

Miller only caught 25 passes for Seattle last year though after having 60 or more receptions in each of his last two seasons in Oakland. Winslow caught 75 passes for the Buccaneers last year and had at least 66 receptions in each of his three seasons in Tampa Bay.

Matt Flynn won’t disappoint Seahawks

Last year the Arizona Cardinals signed backup quarterback Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes that they could make a return to the playoffs. They failed miserably but the Seattle Seahawks feel that signing Green Bay Packers’ backup Matt Flynn will work out better than Kolb did for Arizona.

Manning gamble doesn’t pay off for Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins received a little bad news from Peyton Manning yesterday as he informed the Dolphins that he wouldn’t be signing with them. Before deciding to chase Manning, the Dolphins were considered front-runners for Matt Flynn’s services so they have to be concerned that Flynn has extended his visit with the Seattle Seahawks.

Seahawks must focus offense around Marshawn Lynch

During the first half of the season, the Seattle Seahawks were reluctant to give running back Marshawn Lynch a lot of touches and wound up sporting a 2-5 record for their trouble. Without the threat of a consistent running game opposing defenses would line up and tee off on Seattle’s quarterbacks.
