5 teams that should sign Chad Ochocinco

Chad Ochocinco was an ill fit for the New England Patriots who ended up releasing him on Thursday. The Patriots attempted to trade him but found no suitors which led to his release.

But Ochocinco is still a very skilled receiver who has the ability to contribute to a team. But which teams would be a better fit for Ochocinco’s skills? Here are five teams that could use a skilled receiver like Ochocinco:

Saint Louis Rams

Most people expected the Rams to draft wide receiver Justin Blackmon with the sixth overall pick. The Jacksonville Jaguars moved up to the fifth spot in order to select Blackmon and the Rams ended up settling for wide receiver Brian Quick in the second round. Ochocinco would provide a nice target for Sam Bradford and give Quick time to develop.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are still waiting for wide receiver Dez Bryant to develop into the consistent threat they know he can be. Bryant struggled with injuries last season as did Miles Austin so Ochocinco would provide great insurance in case those two falter again. The Cowboys are also in need of a consistent third option after losing Laurent Robinson to the Jaguars.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders could use a more consistent second option to play alongside Darrius Heyward-Bey and Ochocinco has the added benefit of being quarterback Carson Palmer’s former teammate. The two played together for seven very productive seasons in Cincinnati and could revive each other’s careers with another chance to play together.

Cleveland Browns

Signing Ochocinco would be an interesting move for Cleveland but it makes sense. Although rookie Brandon Weeden is expected to be the starter, he’s not your typical rookie. Weeden will turn 29 during the season so having a more experienced receiver to throw to would help to shorten the learning curve for the 28-year-old rookie. Plus Ochocinco would get the chance to play against his former team the Bengals, twice a year.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers focused mostly on the defensive side of the ball during the draft and failed to bring in a wide receiver to play alongside the aging Steve Smith. Smith and Ochocinco were former teammates at Santa Monica College and are still good friends. It would be interesting to see how these two would play together and it would give the Panthers the most reliable second-option they have had in years.

Where ever Ochocinco lands most would agree that the league needs his charismatic personality. He is one of the best entertainers in the game and his touchdown celebrations are classic. Here’s hoping he lands with some team very soon.

  2. Yes and if pigs could fly we wouldn't need airplanes. Chad has been done for several seasons now. He's focused too much of his time and energy on promoting himself on various venues like Dancing With the Stars and not enough on maintaining his level of play. As a longtime Bengal fan, I can tell you he wouldn't even make our practice squad.
