The New York Jets acquired quarterback Tim Tebow from the
Denver Broncos with the intention of putting together special packages with him
running a wildcat/option-type offense. Bringing in a big, speedy target with the
kind of straight-line speed Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill has only
furthers the notion that the Jets want to give Tebow every opportunity to take Mark Sanchez’s job.
Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill is one of the most
talented players in this draft. He is big and fast but many people question his
skills due to the lack of catches he had during his time at Georgia Tech.
Most of that had to do with the fact that the Yellow Jackets
didn’t really have anyone who could get him the ball consistently. It is funny
though that Hill played in an option attack at Georgia Tech and ended up
getting drafted in the second round by the one team that has committed to
running the option this year.
Hill only had 28 catches on the year but his average yards-per-catch
was an eye-popping 29.3 yards. He’s 6’4”, ran a 4.36 at the combine and has
huge hands. He will need to be taught the art of route-running but he makes a
great deep-ball target and he’s also good catching jump-balls in the endzone.
Tebow isn’t the most accurate thrower but those are two
passes that he has shown he can throw with ease. Let’s see how long it takes
before Rex Ryan decides to put these two in action together.
